Intermediate language learners
At intermediate level the goal is to switch from English-supported watching to target-language subtitles and start mining short sentences instead of isolated words. You can follow the plot — now make every scene contribute to your active vocabulary.

- you spot grammar mistakes in subtitles or transcripts
- new words stick faster when you see them inside a full sentence
What to do this stage
- 1Watch with target-language subtitles first; keep English as backup.
- 2Mine one short sentence per scene, not isolated nouns.
- 3Replay scenes where reduced sounds or contractions appear.
- 4Review saved vocabulary in spaced repetition before the next session.
A weekly routine
- 1Four watching sessions of 25-35 minutes each.
- 2Two spaced-repetition review sessions on saved phrases.
- 3One harder challenge session with native-speed content.
Aim for 25-40 minutes per watching session at this stage.
Common mistakes to avoid
- staying with dual subtitles long after you no longer need them
- saving complex idioms before the everyday verb pattern is stable
- watching too much in one variety before broadening to other accents
